Are You On The Right Path to Obtain Your 2017 Goals?

We are halfway through 2017. This is the time to evaluate the strength and performance of your company against your previously established yearly goals. As part of my “Keys to Success,” a regular overview of your business practices, processes, successes and challenges will help to keep you on the right path to achieve your objectives. Make sure you work ON your business and not just IN your business by practicing these four skills.

  • Re-visit the “Company Snapshot” you made at the end of last year- Each year I sit with my clients and we develop a detailed picture of their companies to be able to assess the health and strengths. We outline what worked in the past year and what didn’t work. Analysis is important and the data gleaned is priceless to your company.
  • Review your defined roadmap for your company’s success- Be honest at the half year point- are you moving toward your 2017 goals? Re-evaluate those short term goals- are they still specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely? Revise the path if necessary.
  • Continue being proactive to sustain growth- It is easy to become complacent when you find success. And it is very easy to lose sight of your path and drown when you are trying to react to changes in your business and industry. Strengthen and support things that are working. Take responsibility for things that are not working. And focus on the things you can control. Let go of things that are out of your control.
  • Identify the need to be flexible- This is one of the more difficult skills that business owners must learn. You understand the need for planning, budgeting and analyzing in order to be prepared for both success and challenges. But owners also have to understand the need to change, sometimes quickly, in order to weather sudden (or not so sudden) storms. Being able to see your business from different perspectives (think 30,000 foot view as well as detailed scale) and understand when to modify your course can be the difference between increased profit or advanced debt.

It’s July 2017, you’re standing on the 50 yard line. Can you see the end-zone? Or are the other players on the field obscuring your view? Stay focused, be agile and your 2017 goals will be within your reach.
